  • Stray Voltage Defense: Safely evacuates induced electrical currents generated by submerged pumps, broken heaters, and faulty lighting fixtures.

  • Premium Titanium Rod: Features a solid titanium probe body that offers exceptional electrical conductivity and 100% corrosion resistance in saltwater.

  • Inhabitant Protection: Highly recommended for preventing lateral line disease (HLLE), stress, and unexplained fish mortality caused by electrical leakage.

  • Aquarist Safety: Reduces the risk of mild electrical shocks when working or placing your hands inside the aquarium or sump water.

  • Heavy-Duty Ground Wire: Equipped with a thick, insulated copper grounding wire to ensure a dedicated path to an earth ground.

  • Universal Application: Completely non-toxic and chemically inert, making it ideal for delicate marine reef environments as well as freshwater tanks.

CoralVue Titanium Aquarium Ground Probe

The CoralVue Titanium Ground Probe (SKU: CV-GP100) is a critical piece of safety equipment that every aquarist should install in their tank. Modern aquariums rely heavily on submerged electronics—such as return pumps, wavemakers, protein skimmers, and glass heaters—all of which naturally emit or leak small amounts of alternating current () into the water, known as "stray voltage." While this voltage may not always trip a breaker, it can severely impact the health of your aquatic life and pose a shock hazard to you.

By introducing the CoralVue Titanium Ground Probe into your filtration system or display tank, you provide a direct path of least resistance for that electricity to escape safely to an earth-ground outlet. Constructed from pure, high-grade titanium, the probe element will never rust, degrade, or leach toxic heavy metals into marine reef setups or sensitive freshwater systems. Installing this budget-friendly safety tool eliminates constant electrical stress on your fish, significantly lowering the risk of stress-induced illnesses like Head and Lateral Line Erosion (HLLE).

Key Features

  • Firm Electrical Ground: Establishes a true, permanent ground to carry away low-level current leakage.

  • Corrosion-Proof Titanium: Inert metal rod withstands continuous submersion in highly corrosive saltwater environments.

  • Promotes Health: Helps reduce unexplainable livestock stress, lethargy, and behavioral anomalies caused by electrical currents.

  • User Safeguard: Helps shield the hobbyist from annoying static bites or hazardous shocks during routine tank maintenance.

  • Plug-and-Play Setup: Uses a standard, dedicated grounding pin configuration that connects directly into any conventional three-prong wall outlet or GFCI surge protector.

Recommended Configurations

  • Mixed Reefs & SPS Tanks: Essential due to the high number of powerheads and electronic devices running simultaneously.

  • Large Sump Systems: Best placed in a high-flow chamber near return pumps where the majority of voltage generation occurs.

What’s Included:

  • (1) CoralVue Titanium Ground Probe Element

  • (1) Attached Grounding Wire with Heavy-Duty Insulation

  • (1) Standard Spade Ground Connection (grounding screw not included)

Technical Specs:

  • Model / SKU: CV-GP100

  • Probe Material: Solid Pure Titanium

  • Wire Composition: Insulated Copper Core

  • Connection Type: Ground Pin Only (No live/neutral prongs)

  • Compatibility: Fresh, Brackish, and Marine Saltwater Aquariums

Instructions:

  • Unpack the ground probe and inspect the wire insulation for any cuts or defects.

  • Submerge the metallic titanium end completely into your aquarium display or sump chamber. (Secure it in a high-flow area where it cannot fall out or touch live heating elements).

  • Route the wire safely along your cabinet, creating a drip loop to prevent water from traveling down the cord.

  • Secure the grounding spade terminal securely to a properly grounded GFCI outlet or electrical box.

  • Note: The adapter plug only features a single grounding spade to be secured to a properly grounded outlet or electrical box.

  • Pro Tips:
  • The Ultimate GFCI Partner. A ground probe should always be paired with a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) outlet. If a piece of equipment like a heater cracks, the ground probe immediately pulls the electricity away, causing the GFCI to trip instantly and cut power before the tank becomes a hazard to you or your animals.
  • Sump vs. Display Placement. For the cleanest aesthetic, place the probe inside your sump's return pump compartment. Since water is continuously flowing and conductive throughout the shared volume, a probe in the sump will successfully ground the entire connected aquarium system.
  • Keep it Free of Buildup. Over time, calcium carbonate, coralline algae, or organic biofilm can accumulate on the titanium tip. Every few months, give the probe tip a quick wipe down or a brief soak in a vinegar solution to keep the metal surface clean and functioning at maximum conductivity.
