While most corals in our tanks will survive with good lighting and free-floating particulate food in the form of plankton and fish food, the main goal as care takers of these magnificent creatures is to help them not only survive but also thrive.  This means having energy and resources to heal, fend off deceases or pests, grow and even sometimes reproduce!

It is no secret that an organism that is well fed and provided with all nutritional needs will become stronger and thrive.

While some people may argue that our corals get most of the nutritional needs from lighting and the symbiotic relationship they have with zooxanthella, feeding your corals can provide additional nutrients that the coral may not get in sufficient quantities from photosynthesis.

While zooxanthella produces most of the nutrients for their own development and survival, they only assign a small fraction to corals.  In other words, corals cannot survive exclusively from the limited nutrients deriving from zooxanthella so they need additional sources of proteins and carbohydrates.

Some of these additional sources of nutrients can derive from zooplankton, phytoplankton, bacterioplankton and in less proportion, free amino acids dissolved in water.

EasySPS from EasyReefs is a single source zooplankton and phytoplankton that provides corals with high nutritional proteins, fatty acids rich in EPA, ARA and DHA, carbohydrates and functional micronutrients involved in metabolic pathways of coral organism.

It is a carefully developed blend of freeze-dried phytoplankton and zooplankton formulated to meet the specific nutritional requirements of corals such as SPS as well as non-photosynthetic organism like some types of gorgonians. Best of all, easySPS requires absolutely no refrigeration whatsoever, is completely natural and preservative free, with very little impact on your tank’s nitrates and phosphate readings.

Unlike most corals foods out there, easyReefs makes no secret as to what makes up easySPS.

It is comprised of:

  • 50% proteins that include essential amino acids which are key for corals growth and development of coral tissue.
  • 6% in fatty acids which are naturally present in the 3 different phytoplankton strings included: Phaeodactylum tricornutum, Isochrysis galbana and Tetraselmis chui.
  • Finally, it is 18% carbohydrates.

If that wasn’t enough, EasyReefs is fully transparent as to what ingredients are included with easySPS because they understand that people care very deeply for their reef tanks and will not add anything to the tank unless they are fully informed on what’s in it!

EasySPS ingredients are:

Palaemon varians which is a Shrimp rich in glutamine, amino acids and proteins that triggers a quick feeding response.

Tetraselmis chuii is a phytoplankton string packed with natural antioxidants, Vitamin C, E, B12 and rich in EPA and ARA essential fatty acids.

Phaeodactylum tricornutum is a phytoplankton packed with beta glucans that stimulate the immune system. It also has a very high content of EPA essential fatty acids.

Isochrysis galbana (also known as T-ISO) is a type of phytoplankton that is Very rich in DHA essential fatty acid and micronutrients critical to the very complex metabolic process.

Sardine oil which gives easySPS that smooth, silky texture and finally, Tocopherol, extracted from rosemary, which is an antioxidant and acts as a stabilizer of essential fatty acids.

Dosing EasySPS to the reef tank is very easy.

Simply fill half the included tube with tank water and add 1 level scoop for every 50 gallons of water.

Close the cup and shake well until the food is fully rehydrated and mixed.

Pour the content in the aquarium near an area of high flow.  You can also spot feed corals but it is not necessary.  Do this on a daily basis.

You can adjust your dosing level based on the feeding response of corals, fauna and your aquarium’s filtration capacity.  If you experience the presence of residual nutrients or non-desired algae growth, it may indicate an excess in easysps and the daily amount should be decreased.

During the first three weeks, add EasySPS daily just before the lights turn on. After that, it may be added at any time of the day.

For best results, we highly recommended using easySPS in conjunction with easyBooster.

We also encourage you to keep a close eye on the calcium, alkalinity and magnesium intake.  Such elements will be consumed at higher rates as the corals experience accelerated growth.
